| he oldest bar in the State of Florida and the site of the original Sloppy Joe's Bar from 1933 to 1937, Captain Tony's Saloon served not only as a bar, but also as an icehouse and the city morgue from 1852 to 1875. The tree pictured below grows through the building and while other items hang in the bar today, this tree was the city's hanging tree for murderers and pirates. The Elvira tombstone is also an authentic artifact that Tony left untouched after uncovering the bones of sixteen bodies while laying a foundation. All were left alone and their spirits are likely some of those haunting this location today. In constructing this site, we took the above photo. Not only did we manage to capture a rare and evasive drunken tourist on film, but we captured a rather large orb right above the center of the building. Check our Sightings page for more Captain Tony's orbs and apparitions. |
